Mason Greenwood update: Man United board gives three conditions to return Mason greenwood to united squad after Erik Ten Hag reveals his plans and wants the superstar

Mason Greenwood and his Man Utd future continue to cause division amid claims Erik ten Hag would welcome the forward back

A Manchester United expert has revealed what he thinks will be the club’s likely course of action for Mason Greenwood with a decision over the suspended player’s future soon to be made public.

The Red Devils have been holding an internal investigation into the star’s Old Trafford future for six months as they decide whether to integrate the once-capped England man back into their squad.

Greenwood has not played for United since January 2022 when he was arrested over a series of serious allegations. And while charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February of this year, the forward has remained suspended, on full pay, pending a decision.

Greenwood’s return certainly provokes a lot of debate, hence the club’s decision to delay their verdict.

To that end, senior members of United’s squad are split on his potential return. Meanwhile, a number of the club’s commercial partners, together with their women’s team, are reportedly wholly opposed to him returning to the fold.

But with two years remaining on his contract, his situation is far from easy to decide.

However, there has been claims that United boss Erik ten Hag is prepared to stand by the striker. And a series of private calls to Greenwood, he has told him so, although with the stipulation that any decision will not be the Dutchman’s to make.

Late last month it was suggested that a decision on Greenwood’s future would be announced ahead of the new season. And with United’s opening fixture against Wolves now just 10 days away, the clock is ticking on their verdict.

Man Utd advised by expert to loan Mason Greenwood out
One option that was strongly floated recently was the possibility of Greenwood being sent out on loan. Indeed, reports claimed Ten Hag tried to include Greenwood as a makeweight in the Rasmus Hojlund deal, which will likely be made public on Saturday.

However, Atalanta rejected the chance, insisting to United they wanted a cash sale only for the Danish striker.

Nonetheless, United are tipped to press ahead with their plan to loan Greenwood out.

That’s according to controversial United expert Mark Goldbridge, who, taking to Twitter, explained how he thinks the club will re-integrate the player.

Revealing how he believes the situation will play out, he said: “..a year loan is obviously the best choice.”

He continued: “1. Doesn’t cause a s***storm.

“2. Doesn’t derail our season with media Greenwood obsession.

“3. The player can focus on returning to football away from the mental pressure of the media and fan backlash. Away games in particular.”

Ten Hag offers thoughts on Greenwood
Goldbridge’s thoughts on the matter come after Ten Hag also recently addresses speculation over the player’s future.

Speaking from the RIMAC Annex at the University of California San Diego on Saturday, from United’s tour, Ten Hag stated: “I said everything in New York. I don’t want to answer the question anymore because it’s not different.

“I’ve shared my opinion and I don’t want to repeat my opinion.”

Speaking prior to United’s friendly win over Arsenal in New York on July 22, Ten Hag said: “On this, it’s a club decision and of course, I said my opinions but it’s a club decision and we have to accept that.”

And asked whether he’d back Greenwood’s return to the squad, the 53-year-old added: “I can’t say so much about it but I shared my opinion about it, so let’s see what’s going to happen.”
