Manchester United now targeting €50m ‘unhappy’ Barcelona defender as they formalize Raphael Varane exit

According to a FootballTransfers report, Manchester United are keen on making a move for Jules Koundé this summer.

United are looking to overhaul their defence in the coming months, and with Raphaël Varane having already left the club and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all but gone as well, they have a spot open for someone able to operate both as a centre-back and right-back.

Priced at €50 million, the France international had an underwhelming season with Barcelona as they finished ten points behind La Liga champions Real Madrid and sacked coach Xavi at the end of the campaign.

With good technical ability and positional awareness at the back, not to mention age being on his side as well, Koundé would make a good fit for United regardless of who the manager is come August.

Another crucial thing to keep in mind is that he has missed very few games through injury over the past two seasons, and availability is important given the injury-ridden season United have just had.

Barcelona’s financial woes are well known at this point, so Koundé could arrive at an even cheaper price. Even if the Blaugrana were to hold out €50 million, though, this wouldn’t be a bad deal at all.
