Man United have been given the green light to sign £85m Bryan Mbeumo alternative this summer transfer

Manchester United would go in search of versatile players this summer, it is easy to understand why Bryan Mbeumo currently sits top of their wish list.

After wrapping up the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves earlier this month, United have earmarked Brentford star Mbeumo as their next target to go after in this summer’s window.

Despite seeing an opening offer worth £55million knocked back a fortnight ago, United are understood to still be in talks with Brentford over a deal. Furthermore, Mbeumo is just as keen to get a deal over the line.

It is thought Brentford are holding out for a fee similar to the one United paid Wolves to sign Cunha (£62.5m), although he was attainable via a release clause. That made the deal relatively straightforward to get done.

Despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who recently appointed former Brentford chief Thomas Frank as their new boss, Mbeumo has told confidants that he wants to move to Old Trafford this summer. It is players of his character and mentality United need.

Mbeumo enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 campaign, scoring 20 Premier League goals, meaning his stock is at an all-time high. He would boost United’s chances of increasing their attacking output and would offer a sense of the versatility Berrada believes United need.

Mbeumo, if signed, would be able to operate as a right wing-back, a right-sided No.10 and potentially as a striker. He would tick plenty of boxes.

But with United keen to move at speed this summer, in terms of securing incomings and overseeing outgoings, they may have to keep other options in mind if talks over Mbeumo do not progress as quickly as they would like them to.

According to a report by The Guardian, United have expressed interest in West Ham United ace Mohammed Kudus. It is claimed United, Chelsea, Newcastle United and another unnamed Premier League club are keen on his signature.

It has been widely reported in recent weeks the Ghanaian wants to leave West Ham this summer and open a new chapter. Despite links with a move to Saudi Arabia, he is not keen on a move to that part of the world at this stage in his career.

Kudus has an £85m release clause in his Hammers contact that will reportedly become active for Premier League clubs for the first ten days of July. However, the Hammers are keen to cut their cloth this summer and raise funds via player sales, meaning they may be prepared to negotiate a lower selling price.
