BREAKING Saints complete interview with another surprise coaching candidate, Here’s who it was with

Another interview for the New Orleans Saints is in the books.

The Saints announced Thursday that they’ve completed a virtual interview with New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka for their coaching vacancy.

Kafka becomes the second known candidate to interview for the position, joining Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver

Kafka’s candidacy might seem strange given the Giants are coming off a 3-14 season and have had one of the worst offenses in the league over the last few years, but the coordinator has drawn head coaching interest previously.

Kafka interviewed with at least four teams in 2023 and received second interviews with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans on the heels of the Giants making the playoffs. Then prior to the 2024 season, Kafka again took head coaching interviews with the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans, but was again passed over for other candidates.

This year, Kafka was also reportedly set to interview with the Chicago Bears as well as the Saints.

A former journeyman quarterback, Kafka has risen through the coaching ranks after spending years under Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs. He joined the Giants in 2022 to call plays under coach Brian Daboll.

Kafka, however, had those duties stripped the next season, but was given the title of assistant head coach in 2024 after New York blocked him from interviewing for the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator position.

In addition to Kafka and Weaver, other candidates for the Saints include Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel and interim coach Darren Rizzi
