West Ham To Reignite Interest In Former Manchester United Captain – Report

West Ham United have been linked with a move for Manchester United defender in the past. According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Hammers will make another effort to sign the England international in the upcoming summer transfer window, having failed to do so until now.

Moyes’ interest in Maguire is very apparent at this point. In many ways, the former Sheffield United captain would be an excellent addition to a Moyes team – especially as they are currently looking to bring a new centre-back to the club.

They are hoping to secure Maguire’s services for a fee of around £15 – £20 million, despite the fact that United paid £80 million for him when they initially snapped him up.

The Scot has a propensity for signing tall, physically-gifted players – they are integral to his long ball tactics and low block approach to defending.

There are few players in world football at the moment who are more aerially dominant than Maguire – while other aspects of his game are lacking, his monolithic presence cannot be overlooked.

Currently, the Irons have four centre-backs in their squad – Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna, Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos. With Ogbonna’s contract due to expire in the summer, they’ll need a new centre-half for the 2024/25 campaign.

What did Alan Nixon say regarding West Ham and David Moyes chasing Harry Maguire?
On his official Patreon page, Nixon wrote:

“And [David Moyes] is coming back to [Harry] Maguire as an ideal man to fill the vacancy – months after first trying to land him from Old Trafford.

“However Hammers will try again and hope that the asking price has dropped enough to make the signing possible. And with Maguire closer to the end of his lucrative contract he may be more open to a deal in London that would extend his time in the Premier League.”
