Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already been told first Man Utd transfer he should make in January
Manchester United’s transfer kitty for the January window may not be the biggest, but with Jim Ratcliffe’s investment the summer window is looking increasingly promising
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a stake in Manchester United was only confirmed on Christmas eve, but he has already been told who to sign in January.
The INEOS founder will – pending final approval – purchase 25 per cent of the club and will also invest as much as £236million, which has sparked huge optimism among the Old Trafford faithful that better days are ahead.
Ratcliffe and his team will oversee footballing operations and are believed to be planning some big changes.
With that being said, the January transfer window may come too soon for major spending and any signings boss Erik ten Hag is likely to make will almost certainly be loan ones.
Looking ahead to the summer window and United legend Dimitar Berbatov has made clear who he thinks Ratcliffe should pursue.
United’s midfield is in dire need of strengthening and Berbatov has identified Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich as a player that would drastically improve Ten Hag’s side.
Boasting the kind of experience and technical quality that would raise the standards at most clubs, United could do far worse than land Kimmich’s signature.
“Going forward with the takeover, I wonder how brave Man United will be in the transfer market,” Berbatov told Betfair. “Joshua Kimmich is being linked, but he’s such an important player for Bayern Munich.
“Can I see him leaving Bayern and coming to United in the January transfer window? I don’t think that will happen Maybe we can speak about this transfer in the summer, but he’s someone who is highly regarded at his- current club. With Casemiro’s injuries and form, maybe United are going to look for a replacement.

”Let’s not forget about Scott McTominay though, he’s there and playing well, but if Casemiro is not going to be counted on to continue to play because of his age and injuries, then of course, you need to buy someone to replace him.
Kimmich is someone who fits perfectly in that position, but does he want to leave Bayern? That’s going to be a tough decision.”
Ten Hag’s United are not the only Premier League side linked with a move for Kimmich. Local rivals Manchester City are also believed to be keeping tabs on the Germany international, as are Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
For now, United’s full focus will be on Saturday night’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
The Red Devils currently sit seventh in the table and desperately need a win to boost their hopes of Champions League qualification hopes
