Sancho to leave? – Journalist shares what Jadon Sancho did today at Carrington as Man United make shock decision on his future
Manchester United have released a statement stating Jadon Sancho has been axed from the squad for the upcoming fixture against Brighton.
Sancho was involved in a public spat with his manager, Erik ten Hag, and he will now train “away from the first team group pending resolution of a squad discipline issue”.
Manchester Evening News journalist, Samuel Luckhurst, shared on Twitter that Sancho did arrive at Carrington today (Thursday, 14 September) and he attempted to hide from photographers.
He wrote on Twitter: “Sancho arrived at Carrington today and attempted to hide from photographers. Right decision by #mufc. Can’t tolerate a player publicly accusing the manager of essentially lying. This has to be Sancho’s last months/season at United.”
What’s next for Sancho?
Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 for a fee of around £73m.
In two seasons at the club, he has made 58 Premier League appearances, managing nine goals and six assists, which is nowhere near the levels he showed when he was at Dortmund.
Clearly, the 23-year-old hasn’t reached the heights everyone expected of him to be. However, the issue here runs deep.
Ten Hag suggested that Sancho wasn’t selected for the trip to the Emirates because of poor performance in training.
The England winger took to Twitter to quash such allegations, suggesting the Dutchman’s post-match comments were “completely untrue”.
Sancho finally deleted the post on Tuesday, more than a week after it had been posted. While his decision to delete the post has been seen as a positive step, the club have decided to ban him from first-team training.
There is no timeframe mentioned for his return. With Antony also missing, Ten Hag is running out of options at the moment.
Luckhurst has raised an important point here – what does the future hold for Sancho? He is a highly talented winger, but the club could decide to sell him now
