Patrick Dorgu shown red for poor tackle as Premier League issue surprise Man Utd verdict
In the first half of Wednesday’s encounter against Ipswich Town, Manchester United’s new kid Patrick Dorgu was sent off after a protracted VAR review for a poor tackle on Omari Hutchinson.
After VAR intervened during Wednesday night’s match between Manchester United and Ipswich Town, Patrick Dorgu was sent off.
After his mistake allowed Jaden Philogene to score the first goal in the fourth minute, the United left-back had a rough start to the game.
When Darren England sent the Dane off for a shoddy tackle on Omari Hutchinson, after catching the Ipswich forward high on the shin with his studs up, things took a turn for the worse.
“Red card, all day, every day,” said Robbie Savage, who was commentating on the match for TNT Sport. “The more you see it, there’s no argument. It’s over the top of the ball. It’s a straight red card, bad tackle.”

The Premier League shed some light on the decision with a post on X, which read: “VAR recommended an on-field review for a possible red card to Dorgu for the challenge on Hutchinson – with the contact deemed serious foul play. Upon review, the referee issued a red card to Dorgu.”
Things got even worse for United just minutes after Dorgu was sent off with Philogene grabbing his second goal of the night to make it 2-2 at half-time.
Dorgu’s red card meant Ruben Amorim was forced to reshuffle his team, with the unfortunate Alejandro Garnacho making way for Noussair Mazraoui.
