NY Jets Aaron Rodgers makes shocking decision on Jets future as he’s focused on dealing with his house amid California fires
The New York Jets quarterback spoke with “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday, saying that he’s in a holding pattern for his own future while the team figures out who’ll be running the Jets’ show next season.
“I think everybody understands that it’s going to come down to (the) GM and coach and myself, and whether we all want to do a dance together — or if it’s not in the cards,” Rodgers said.
The 41-year-old signal-caller is coming off a 5-12 season with the Jets one year after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in the 2023 season opener. Things have not gone well for the franchise, which fired head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas in-season, since Rodgers arrived.
The Jets remain headlong in the process of finding their replacements. Rodgers said he’s had “limited communication” with those who remain the franchise — including owner Woody Johnson — about whether he might want to spend his 21st NFL season with them or not.
“As far as my own decision, I told them I’m going to take some time,” Rodgers said. “They haven’t even made a decision on the GM or a coach yet. Once that happens, then that’ll take us to the next step which is a conversation, I’m assuming, with whoever that individual is.”
