Man Utd make fresh Kobbie Mainoo transfer decision amid Chelsea links
According to rumors, Manchester United has resumed negotiations with Kobbie Mainoo regarding a new contract in an effort to stave off Chelsea’s transfer interest.
Although earlier talks for an extension halted late last year, Mainoo still has more than two years left on his present contract.
Following those events, Chelsea, a Premier League competitor, was connected to a surprise move for Mainoo in the event that the Red Devils decided to cash in on their valuable academy asset.
The Red Devils’ most recent rebuild under Amorim may benefit greatly from the sale of homegrown players, which, in financial terms, constitutes pure profit under the Profit and Sustainability guidelines.
However, the Daily Mail now reports that the club have reoped talks with Mainoo’s representatives as they look to tie down his long-term future to the club
It is said that the midfielder, currently out with injury, will demand a pay rise to around £180,000-a-week, a salary in line with many other first-team regulars in Ruben Amorim’s squad
‘Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club,’ Amorim said back in January.
‘But we know the position that this club is in at this moment, we will see but I really like our players, especially from our academy. I’m really happy with Kobbie, he’s improving and also Garnacho.’
‘The focus is that we have to improve our academy. And you have to bring more [through]. That is something that all the clubs in England have to take advantage of.
‘The players that come from their academies. To play, to feel the shirt, but also to sell them. So our focus is to bring more [through].’
