Man United told by coach what to expect after signing Arsenal wonderkid This summer transfer

Chido Obi-Martin, according to Denmark Under-18 head coach Morten Eskesen, is a “really good finisher” that Manchester United is acquiring.

The 16-year-old, who scored 32 goals in 18 games for Arsenal’s Under-18s last season—including 10 in a single match against Liverpool—has established himself as one of the top young strikers in Europe.

Obi-Martin, though, has agreed to join Manchester United after Arsenal was unable to persuade him to stay with the team. Obi-Martin, who turns 17 in November, is anticipated to sign a professional contract with United.

Bayern Munich had also expressed a great interest in Obi-Martin, and it is believed that Ruud van Nistelrooy was a major factor in convincing the young forward to join Old Boys.

‘His greatest competence is that he scores many goals,’ Eskesen told Tipsbladet.

‘If you saw some of the goals at the European Championships… he’s a really good finisher and positional so he gets free for that.

‘He is also good man-to-man. He is good at running in depth in relation to getting into free positions. His finishing skills are what allow him to score so many goals.

‘One is to get the chances – number two is to score. There he is above average and that is what makes him so interesting.’

After scoring two goals in Denmark’s UEFA European Under-17 Championship campaign in May, Obi-Martin is now stepping up to Under-18 level with his national side to play against Norway in a mini tournament in Sweden.

‘I spoke to him last week and asked him if he was fit for the fight and injury-free. He was, and he is in between clubs,’ Eskesen said.

‘Right now he doesn’t have a club, but it’s only a matter of time. A lot happens in the transfer window. We know what he stands for. He has scored a lot of goals and had a good European Championship recently.

‘When I read about him, they have been queuing up to get him. I’m sure a man with that talent will have no trouble finding a club. It might be more about which club he chooses.’
