Man United ready to pay €50 million for Bayern Munich centre-back who is open to Old Trafford move

Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt remains a transfer target for Manchester United this summer.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany estimates the Red Devils’ current valuation of him at about €50 million.

Rafael Varane’s departure this summer and Harry Maguire’s recent fitness concerns have made Man United desire another center defender.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, has always had a great deal of admiration for De Ligt, who is 24 years old and can leave the Bundesliga team if a good offer comes up.

Although Man United has not yet made a formal bid, they are prepared to pay €50 million for the Dutchman.

Bayern have a new manager in place after Vincent Kompany was appointed, and it appears the former Burnley boss is open to letting De Ligt go.

The club and player will discuss his future after the European Championship when the summer transfer window is expected to kick into full gear.

De Ligt would be a perfect addition to the Man United defence given his qualities and huge potential.

He caught the eyes of major European clubs during European games with Ajax under Ten Hag, and the Red Devils boss has what it takes to bring out the best in one of his former players.

The Bundesliga star is very confident on the ball and is an excellent passer. His style of play fits in perfectly into what Ten Hag is trying to do.

His strength, leadership, aggressiveness, tackling and aerial ability would also be useful.

While €50m is a decent fee for such a player, Bayern spent an initial €67m to recruit his services in July 2022 and could demand more from suitors before agreeing to sell him this summer
