How Man United will lineup with new January signing Patrick Dorgu finally revealed
Despite his age and relative lack of experience, Dorgu has been signed for the first team at United, make no mistake.
He’s unique in being a specialist left-sided wing-back, a player whose physical attributes have stood out at Lecce.
Right-footed players Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have been temporary solutions for Amorim at left wing-back in recent weeks.
During that time United have lacked genuine width and most of their threat has come on the right flank through Amad Diallo.
United could get a double boost with Dorgu’s arrival, with Luke Shaw also returning to fitness to compete for a place too. Having had virtually no natural left wing-backs for much of his tenure so far, Amorim could soon have two – although Shaw could also fit in at a left centre-back.
It seems obvious that Dorgu will be the new left wing-back, with Dalot or Mazraoui on the other side and Amad pushed up into the front three. Shaw will be a rotation option until he proves his fitness again, with Tyrell Malacia potentially the fall guy from the deal.
Predicted United XI (3-4-3): Onana (GK) – De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez – Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dorgu – Fernandes, Amad, Hojlund.
Predicted subs: Bayindir (GK), Yoro, Mazraoui, Evans, Shaw, Eriksen, Collyer, Garnacho, Zirkzee.
In terms of other deals that are in the pipeline before the deadline, which is February 3, it might be a case of outgoings rather than more incomings.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have been linked with moves away, although it’s unlikely United will offload them both mid-season without signing replacements. Tyrell Malacia could find himself short of game time after Dorgu’s arrival and the Dutchman has been touted for a possible loan exit.
Casemiro is the other player who may leave United this month, but that depends on there being sufficient interest in him. Italian side Roma have been linked with a possible loan.
