BREAKING: Sam Darnold Will Sign Back With the New York Jets in 2025 NFL Free Agency From Minnesota Vikings

With his career resurgence in Minnesota this season, Sam Darnold is starting to become a top free agent quarterback teams are interested in.

With Darnold, he has led the Vikings to an 11-2 record, and second place in the NFC North. During that stretch, this season he has thrown for 3,299 yards and 28 touchdowns over a 68.4% completion percentage.

It’s easy to see why Darnold is a top free agent target, and that alone could lead him back to where his career started.

Darnold is playing himself out of Minnesota as he will undoubtedly ask for a large contract extension, and with the Vikings having JJ McCarthy waiting on a rookie contract, they will most likely turn to him. That will lead to Darnold hitting the free agent market, where his former team in the New York Jets should heavily be interested.

The Jets were able to pick up a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but that should have no impact on how they handle the future of their quarterback position.

Aaron Rodgers has looked severely regressed, averaging a career low 6.7 yards per attempt since becoming a starter.

Rodgers this season has totaled 3,255 yards and 23 touchdowns with eight interceptions while also taking 32 sacks. Rodgers has typically been known for his pocket awareness, and ability to step up and be clutch with his precise accuracy.

Instead, this year it has looked as though Rodgers is seeing ghosts, his awareness is not as keen, and his pocket presence has been at an all-time low, leading to the Jets’ offense looking very lethargic.

The Jets will be looking for an entirely new regime as they fired their general manager and head coach. With Rodgers’ subpar play and being 41 years old, it’s hard to see the new staff committing to him as the starter.

While the NFL Draft would be a good place to address the position, with notable names like Quinn Ewers, Drew Allar, and Garrett Nussmeier returning, the class takes a hit in talent. That will lead to the team going the free agency route.

Things didn’t necessarily end great for Darnold in his first stint on the Jets and ultimately was replaced by Zach Wilson.

This time around, though, Darnold has been able to learn under great offensive minds like Kyle Shanahan and Kevin O’Connell to develop the correct way.

The Jets also have more talent on the team compared to before with Garrett Wilson, Davante Adams, Breece Hall. Wilson alone is better than Darnold throwing to either Jamison Crowder, Breshad Perriman, or Denzel Mims.

With a new head coach that isn’t Adam Gase, it should make this an attractive spot for Darnold as well to showcase he was never the issue all along
