BREAKING: Erik Ten Hag sends emotional message to Antony after superstar told “not to return” to Man United while he faces strong claims

The United winger was withdrawn from Brazil’s squad after allegations were made against him by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, which Antony has refuted

Antony has been told not to return to Manchester United while he faces allegations of physical assault.

The United winger was withdrawn from Brazil’s squad after allegations were made against him by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, which Antony has denied.

Cavallin claims she was assaulted by Antony on four occasions, with Greater Manchester Police and police in Brazil investigating the allegations made against Antony.

Since then, two further women have come forward to claim they were physically assaulted by Antony, allegations which the player denies.

Antony was due back in training tomorrow, along with the other United players not involved on international duty.

But after high-level discussions between club officials, boss Erik Ten Hag, the player himself and his representatives, it has been decided he should stay away until further notice.

Antony, who earns around £200,000-a-week, will remain on full pay, with United insisting the player has not been suspended, describing it as a “leave of absence”.

United’s statement said: “Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony.

“Players who have not participated in international matches are due back in training on Monday.

“However, it has been agreed with Antony that he will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.

“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”

Antony has not been arrested or charged, with United claiming the decision for him to stay away from training and playing allows him to focus on defending himself.

United also feel the decision they have taken reflects the seriousness with which they are taking the allegations and say they will continue to review the decision as it develops.

Antony released a statement which said: “I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.

“This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club.

“I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth. I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible.”
