Manchester United player ratings vs Man City as Amad excellent in dramatic derby comeback

Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-1 in the derby at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Josko Gvardiol headed home Kevin De Bruyne’s cross to give the home team the lead at halftime, causing United to give up another goal from a corner.

After being sent through by Rasmus Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes had United’s first significant opportunity of the match, but his dink over Ederson went wide.

After being taken down by Matheus Nunes with five minutes remaining, Amad was awarded a penalty.

Amad completed the comeback in the 90th minute to give United the lead after Fernandes converted the penalty kick to even the score.

Here are how the players rated at the Etihad Stadium:

Andre Onana

Not culpable for this week’s set-piece goal United conceded and City were themselves so impotent they barely tested Onana. 6

Harry Maguire

Had little hassle from Erling Haaland during the first half and continued to dominate him in the second on his return to the starting XI. 8

Matthijs de Ligt

Relocated to the right side of the back three and City did not exploit his new positioning. Had to keep up with City’s quicksilver forwards but did. 6

Lisandro Martinez

A much less eventful second appearance at the Etihad after Haaland and Phil Foden’s hat-tricks two years ago. Great pass for Amad. 7

Noussair Mazraoui

Sloppy with the ball and never had the measure of the tricky Jeremy Doku. Improved in the second half as Doku tired. 6

Manuel Ugarte

Another encouraging performance from the Uruguayan, who demonstrated good game management and sparked a counter attack. 7

Bruno Fernandes

Moved into the front three after Mason Mount broke down in the 12th minuite. Created a decent opportunity for Amad’s header but badly missed a one-on-one. Great bottle with the penalty. 6

Diogo Dalot

Nowhere near Josko Gvardiol for the opening goal and got outjumped by Bernardo Silva once. No conviction in attack whatsoever. 4

Mason Mount

Went down in the 12th minute with another injury in only his sixth start of the season. N/A

Amad

Flagged offside three times in the first half alone and that doziness cost United a great chance at 0-0. Had a header saved by Ederson. Won the penalty. Then scored majestically. 9

Rasmus Hojlund

Had little to go off but kept plugging away and brilliantly played Fernandes through for what should have been an equaliser. 6

Subs

Kobbie Mainoo

Hit the ground running and efficient on the ball. 6

Joshua Zirkzee

Didn’t get the ball. 6

Leny Yoro

Freshened up the backline. 6

Antony

Got on the ball quickly and showed eagerness. 6

Victor Lindelof

A late arrival. N/A

Manager

The bold call to drop Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho left United with limited options on the bench and starting two full backs on the wings blunted United. 6
