Man Utd and Chelsea fans say the same thing after Top £50m target ‘turns into Messi’ in Champions League ahead of January transfer window
Michael Olise, a former transfer target for Chelsea and Manchester United, “turned into Lionel Messi” when he scored an incredible goal for Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
With two goals and an assist, Olise was the star of the show for Bayern on Tuesday night as Vincent Kompany’s team crushed Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 in Gelsenkirchen.
Within five minutes, Brazilian striker Kevin broke the tie, but it was the end of it for Shakhtar, who were now behind 2-1 at the break after Thomas Muller scored just before halftime and Konrad Laimer equalized.
After the interval, the former Crystal Palace star continued to dazzle, scoring from the penalty spot and adding Bayern’s fifth goal late on with a spectacular effort. Laimer’s equalizer came from an Olise pass.
Olise picked the ball up 40 yards out, turned and began to dribble towards the Shakhtar goal, taking on two players with neat footwork.
A slaloming run took Olise to the edge of the box where he dribbled past two more opponents and dummied the goalkeeper to leave him on the floor by the time he passed the ball into a near-empty net.
‘This is a brilliant run from Michael Olise,’ the TNT Sports commentator said. ‘It’s absolutely magnificent!
‘Oh! What a goal. Utterly spectacular from Michael Olise, taking on and beating them all and then stroking it home. It’s simply world-class and outrageous.’
The goal had the Bayern Munich bench on their feet, with a grinning Muller raising his hand in appreciation.
And for Chelsea and Manchester United fans, it was a reminder of what could have been
‘Michael Olise would have been an amazing signing for Manchester United,’ one Red Devils fan posted on X. ‘Imagine a top player like him but we stuck with Rashford and Antony…’
Another like-minded United supporter added: ‘We made a mistake allowing him to join Munich. He would have been a massive addition to our team.’
