Man Utd enter ‘initial concrete talks’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting -Reports

Manchester United have entered ‘initial concrete talks’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Portuguese club Sporting CP, according to reports.

Ahead of the January transfer window, the Sweden international striker has been connected to some of the biggest teams in the world.

Although Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea have expressed interest in Gyokeres, United is hoping to win the race for the 26-year-old.

But according to Florian Plettenberg, Gyokeres is believed to have “his heart set” on a move to United, and the team has now increased its efforts to sign him.

According to the German-based Sky Sports transfer analyst, United has just started “initial concrete talks” about acquiring Gyokeres.

He adds that the Red Devils are now ‘fully involved’ in the race for Gyokeres – but does admit United will ‘require sales’ in order to bring in the Swede.

Meanwhile, City have also ‘intensified their efforts’ to sign Gyokeres in recent days as the race for his signature heats up

Gyokeres has conjured up an incredible 67 goals and 19 assists across just 71 games for Sporting to date.

It was recently reported that United are ‘confident’ Gyokeres will be heading to Old Trafford instead of joining any of their top-flight rivals.

However, ex-United striker Louis Saha has urged his former club to steer clear of Gyokeres and says Harry Kane would be a much better signing.

‘It might be surprising, but I don’t think Man Utd should go after Viktor Gyokeres,’ Saha told BoyleSports, who offer Premier League odds.

‘I think he is a good player in an incredible run of form, even in the Champions League, but he won’t get the same luxuries as he does at Sporting.

‘Sporting are not under the same pressure as Manchester United, it’s a completely different animal.’
