Man United’s transfer stance on £42m-rated Bayern Munich star suddenly changes after huge Leny Yoro update

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has long wanted Matthijs de Ligt, but in light of Leny Yoro’s injury, the team may now need to work more to get the Dutch defender.

After the devastating injury setback for new signing Leny Yoro, Manchester United might have to pay a higher price to acquire Matthijs de Ligt.

The injury was initially received during United’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal in Los Angeles on Saturday by the new £59 million transfer from Lille. United hasn’t revealed how serious the problem is, but the early indications are not promising.

Following his substitution during the first half of the match, the 18-year-old was seen at UCLA, United’s training facility, using crutches and sporting a protective plastic boot on his left foot.

Ten Hag has other issues in defence, with Lisandro Martinez not yet back in training after helping Argentina to Copa America glory. The Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16 could come too soon for him.

Victor Lindelof, who has been linked with a move away from the club, has only just resumed full training following a minor injury.

As it stands, Ten Hag may have to start the season with veterans Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in the heart of his back four. Left-back Luke Shaw is another option among the existing players.

United are hoping to bolster their defensive ranks further and Bayern Munich’s De Ligt, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax, remains on their wish list.

Man United has verbally agreed personal terms with the Dutch defender, but the clubs remain apart on the fee.
