Man United now ready and keen to sign €80m-rated PSG star battle but rivals confident of loan deal this summer
Manchester United remain interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons but may well be fighting a losing battle, with RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich also in the hunt for his signature.
The 21-year-old has signed with PSG twice, but after spending the last campaign on loan at Leipzig, he is eager to leave the team.
Manchester United is reportedly very interested in the Netherlands international and is prepared to make a large offer of €100 million (£84.1 million), according to German tabloid Bild.
Bayern is reportedly prepared to make a similarly large bid for the forward, with L’Equipe stating that they will go as high as €90 million (£75.7 million).
Fabrizio Romano claims that PSG is only ready to loan Simons out rather than sell him, and RB Leipzig is optimistic that they can bring Simons back to the team on a short-term contract.
Simons may have no long-term future at PSG, but the French club do not want to sell him before 1 January 2025, reports Bild, because his former club PSV would receive 20 per cent of the fee from any deal done before that date.
Bayern have made no secret of their interest in Simons, with sporting director Christoph Freund full of praise for the Dutch star earlier this month.
‘He is a very good player. He had a very good European Championship and a great season with Leipzig,’ Freund said.
‘He’s developed really well. I think he’s going to have a really good career at the highest level. He has everything, mentality, character and is just an exceptional player.’
