Man United ‘on the trail’ of £38m winger who played under Erik ten Hag
Man United ‘on the trail’ of £38m winger who played under Erik ten Hag
Manchester United have made a habit of signing players who have a history of playing under manager Erik ten Hag since his arrival in 2022.
United have often allowed managers to go and sign their former players since Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit in 2013.
David Moyes brought in Marouane Fellaini from Everton whilst Louis van Gaal landed his Netherlands internationals Daley Blind and Memphis.
Jose Mourinho snapped up his former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic alongside ex-Inter Milan hitman Zlatan Ibrahimovic too, so this has been a recurring theme.
Current United boss Ten Hag has been afforded the same privileges, bringing Ajax duo Lisandro Martinez and Antony to Old Trafford in his first transfer window.
United then snapped up Andre Onana, Ten Hag’s former goalkeeper at Ajax, and Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat having worked under Ten Hag at Utrecht.
There will be divided opinions over whether this approach really works or whether United managers have too much power in the transfer market.
Manchester United want Mohammed Kudus
Ineos may be looking to bring in a more cohesive recruitment plan, taking some power away from the manager.
Still, United are being linked with yet another player who worked under Ten Hag in the Netherlands.
The Mirror claim that United are ‘on the trail’ of West Ham United wide man Mohammed Kudus.
It’s suggested that United have been watching Kudus closely in the Premier League and have been very impressed.
However, it’s added that rivals Liverpool are also keen on Kudus and view him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.
West Ham forked out around £38million to sign Kudus last summer and that investment has certainly paid off.
Kudus racked up eight goals and six assists in 33 Premier League games, terrorising defenders all season long.
United have been linked with Kudus in the past but may now be much more tempted after seeing him prove himself in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old played 42 games under Ten Hag, registering just five goals and four assists.
Hailed as ‘really special’ by Dutch striker Tom van Weert, Kudus mostly played as a number 10 or central midfielder under Ten Hag but has really exploded as a winger at West Ham.
Kudus has previously credited Ten Hag as being a key part in his development, despite perhaps not hitting the heights expected of him in the Netherlands.
There is a chance that the pair reunite this summer but with Ten Hag’s job far from safe, United may look to sign Kudus even if Ten Hag goes.
United are again looking at a right winger and having seen Antony struggle, they could end up signing another former Ten Hag player to replace him
