Man United have started to move for £51m RB Leipzig playmaker this summer
Manchester United have stepped up their interest in signing RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo, according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (page 4).
The Red Devils are likely to make multiple changes to their squad this summer. A new attacking player could be one of the priorities ahead of next season.
Olmo has been linked with United for the past few years and Mundo Deportivo claim that the club have ‘started to move’ for his services this summer.
The Spain international currently has a release clause worth €60 million (£51m) in his contract. The buy-out clause will not expire until the middle of July.
United should avoid move for Olmo
Olmo had a good 2023/24 campaign with Leipzig. He registered eight goals and five assists from 25 appearances from the wide attacking positions.
The £156,000 per week star also has the ability to operate from the number 10 or false nine role, but we believe the Red Devils should not consider an approach.
The 26-year-old has been injury-prone ever since his move to Leipzig. He missed 29 games for club and country with injuries during the recently-concluded season.
The situation has been quite similar in the previous two campaigns. The La Masia graduate was sidelined for 20 games in 2022/23 while missing another 19 matches in 2021/22.
With his poor injury record, United should avoid an approach. The club have had plenty of injury concerns to deal with and should stay away from an injury-prone player.
Olmo has impressed with his high pressing and ability to create big chances, but he would be a risky signing, particularly with the huge outlay and his fitness issues
