Man Utd takeover: Sheikh Jassim to fund Man united with Six more new signings named to massively enhance Erik Ten Hag summer squad

Manchester United can look forward to making six more summer signings, per reports, amid claims that Sheikh Jassim is emerging as the most likely new owner of the club and that a big investment of cash is to follow.

The Red Devils’ summer transfer business finally got underway last week with a £55m deal agreed with Chelsea for Mason Mount. However, United manager Erik ten Hag is seeking at least three other marquee arrivals to take his side to the next level.

And while the Dutchman enjoyed a successful first season in charge, he is all too aware that further improvements are needed. The ultimate goal for United will be to ultimately overhaul neighbours Manchester City.

Their immediate target for the upcoming campaign will be to close that gap further, challenge again for trophies and maintain that place in the top four.

But it is clearly going to take more than Mount’s arrival to do just that.

To that end, the United manager’s summer transfer plans have been held up somewhat by the takeover bid. Their owners, the Glazer family, first put the club up for sale back in November. Yet seven months, there is still to be an announcement on the preferred bidder.

To that end, there are two main bidders in the frame. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ bid is reportedly worth some £5.5bn. Their offer proposes to allow the Glazers to maintain a minority share.

However, the Qatari bid, fronted by Sheikh Jassim, is worth an estimated £6bn. Under their proposal, the Glazers will be totally bought out, while the new owners would also clear the club’s debts.

Now, according to the Daily Express, that process continues to tick along. And there appears a growing feeling that the Glazer family are ready to sell up to the Qataris.

Should that happen, the paper claims Ten Hag can look forward to a boost in his summer transfer kitty. As it stands, Ten Hag is working within a £120m budget, which can be boosted by the sale of unwanted United stars.

However, and while FFP regulations would not mean they can spend without limits, Sheikh Jassim’s arrival would allow £50m extra on top of that budget.

And together with player sales – Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire perhaps the most lucrative ones – the Express believes Ten Hag is now planning for a summer spend at nearer the £250 mark.

First up, United plan to push through the £47m signing of Andre Onana. The Inter Milan goalkeeper will move to Old Trafford as a successor to David De Gea. Inter’s defiance over the deal, however, is seemingly pushing United to the limit.

Next up, United also plan to bring in a second goalkeeper in the form of Urawa Red Diamonds stopper Zion Suzuki. The 20-year-old will cost a fee of just £5m.

United’s hunt for a new striker is well documented, with Rasmus Hojlund remaining their first choice target. Atalanta are reportedly demanding €60m (£51.2m) for the 20-year-old Dane, though United hope to negotiate that price down.

In addition, the Manchester Evening News claims Ten Hag wants to sign another, as yet unnamed, striker to provide cover and competition.

With Harry Maguire to leave, Ten Hag is seeking another central defender. To that end, they will seemingly push through a move for Axel Disasi. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United’s ongoing talks with Monaco over a €40m (£34.1m) deal.

The United boss is also looking to bring in more competition in central midfield. Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay and Fred are all being strongly linked with moves away this summer.

And Ten Hag has reportedly opened talks over a third summer signing from Serie A in Sofyan Amrabat.

The Fiorentina midfielder dazzled at the 2022 World Cup, leading to interest from the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Closer to home, both Tottenham and Liverpool are among those also reportedly keen.

However, Sky Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg claims talks are now underway at a deal to take Amrabat to United. Reports claim the 26-year-old will cost a fee of just under £30m.

His signing will likely conclude United’s summer business. And with a total of seven new names on board, Ten Hag will be hoping to make a serious splash in the 2023/24 season
