Matheus Cunha provides Surprise ‘Sunday’ Man United injury hint ahead of Man City clash

Ruben Amorim, the head coach of Manchester United, must anxiously wait to find out if Matheus Cunha will be able to travel to Manchester City.

Matheus Cunha, a forward for Manchester United, has indicated that his recuperation from an injury is going well and that he might be ready for Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Manchester City.

The Brazilian’s forced exit from the field during United’s triumph over Burnley had the team’s supporters hanging their breath until the international break. Although it was not verified at the time, Cunha seemed to have had a hamstring injury.

Further worry was created when Cunha pulled out of the Brazil national team squad for the September international break, leading many to wonder whether he would recover in time for the clash against City. Fortunately, during the break, Cunha has remained in good spirits and has hit the gym hard to recuperate.

On Sunday, Cunha took to Instagram to share a series of images from his gym session with his latest one that evening perhaps hinting that he could return this weekend. Pictured in good spirits, the 26-year-old captioned the post: “Sunday’s,” with a smirking smile emoji.

The meaning behind the post is, of course, up for interpretation. On the one hand, it may simply be a caption relating to the day of the week he was training.

However, the emoji could lead to the interpretation that he is nearing full fitness again and that ‘Sunday’s’ fixture against City will be his return to the field. If that is the case, it would be a welcome relief for Ruben Amorim.

Cunha has been a mainstay in the strikeforce so far this season and Amorim will be hopeful of having the strongest team available to him for the fixture at the Etihad Stadium. In recent years, United have entered the derby as underdogs but could have grounds to argue that they are favourites this time round as they sit above their neighbours at this admittedly early stage of the campaign.

As well as Cunha, Amorim shall also be awaiting promising news on Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez’s conditions ahead of the fixture.
