The Old Trafford outfit are keen to sign a forward in the summer transfer window
It is no secret that Manchester United are in the market to sign a new centre-forward this summer.
In fact, it was public knowledge that they were one of many clubs keen to sign Ipswich Town’s 12-goal forward Liam Delap before he signed for Chelsea earlier this summer.
United scored just 44 goals last season in the Premier League, with just Everton and the three relegated sides netting fewer than Ruben Amorim’s side
Forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined to score just seven of those goals and while the signing of attacking midfielder Matheus Cunha, who scored 17 for Wolves last season, will help, they need genuine firepower up front, too.
And with the European under-21 championships happening right now, United could have a potential alternative to Delap staring them right in the face
Germany forward Nick Woltemade has taken the competition by storm, scoring four goals in their opening two games in the tournament, including a hat-trick in their win over Slovenia
The 23-year-old’s form is no flash in the pan either. He scored 17 goals at club level for Stuttgart this season, helping his side win the DFB Pokal.
That form saw him called up for Germany’s senior side before dropping back into the under-21 side as he bids to win a European championship medal.
The giant forward stands at six foot six inches tall and would perhaps be the perfect foil for Cunha and United transfer target Bryan Mbeumo in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
Using DataMB’s player similarity generator tool to bring up players with similar characteristics to Woltemade, Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane emerged as one of the potential options. So, too, did Liverpool star Diogo Jota and Inter Milan hitman Lautaro Martinez.
Known by nicknames such as Woltemessi, the Tower of Stuttgart, or Big Nick, his reported price tag of just £34.2million make the young German star one to watch in the summer transfer market
