While Ten Hag was insistent that was water under the bridge in the summer, United agreed a loan with obligation to buy Sancho for £25m on deadline day last year.

Rashford’s exit from the Reds was more recent having suffered his own fallout with a United boss in the form of Ruben Amorim.

Earlier this month, the winger leapt at the opportunity to join Villa having seen a move to Barcelona become unattainable.

The pair interacted on social media following Rashford’s switch to the Midlands with Sancho controversially commenting: “Freedom,” on a post marking the winger’s arrival at Unai Emery’s team.

On Saturday, the duo met for the first time since their respective United departures with both men starting the match on the bench for different reasons. While Rashford is being introduced steadily after a long time without regular minutes, Enzo Maresca has dropped Sancho due to his poor form.

However, both men would be introduced in the second half to produce wildly different outcomes on the pitch. Rashford came on at half-time and bagged two assists as Villa overturned a one-goal deficit to beat Chelsea

Sancho was introduced with approximately 15 minutes remaining but was largely anonymous.

Once the full-time whistle blew, the pair embraced on the pitch with Sancho whispering something to Rashford before the pair went their separate ways.

Villa are understood to hold an option to buy Rashford in the summer for a fee of approximately £40m.

If he continues this form, the West Midlands club could be taking up that option
