£50million-rated PSG star identified as perfect Casemiro upgrade at Man United for one reason
Man United’s top pick to replace the outgoing Casemiro is reportedly Uruguayan great Ugarte, who is expected to offer a fresh dynamism to Ten Hag’s team.
According to Emmanuel Petit, Manuel Ugarte, a target for Manchester United, would be the ideal successor for Casemiro because he would infuse the team with a spirit of determination.
The holding midfielder for PSG, who has fallen out of favor with boss Luis Enrique, has been linked to a summer transfer out of the Parc des Princes.
According to reports, Erik ten Hag’s United are currently the front-runners to sign the £50 million-rated star, while Bayern Munich and Liverpool were also apparently interested in him.
Ex-Arsenal man Petit believes the player is the ideal recruit should Casemiro leave because he’ll bring with him a spirit that very few Red Devils men possess.
As part of bet365’s Euro 2024 coverage, Petit said: “Manuel Ugarte would be a great signing for Manchester United. He was starting for PSG under Luis Enrique until they got beaten by Newcastle, after that he was on the bench.
“However, Ugarte is mentally and physically strong as well as a holding midfielder who is ready to fight and I think he’s got the qualities to adapt himself to the Premier League.
“He could be a very important player for Manchester United because defensively they have been very weak for the last few years, he can play a very important role as holding midfielder just in front of that defence.
“He has a fighting spirit. This guy will never give up from the first minute until the last, he will give 100%. He’s very dedicated to the team. He always puts the team first. He’s the kind of player that doesn’t have big technical qualities, but mentally and physically, he is strong.
“He’s not the best holding midfielder in the world, that’s for sure, but he can bring quality that Manchester United are missing, especially in defensive areas.”
It is reported that United are unwilling to reach Les Parisiens’ price tag and have submitted an offer of just below £40m. However, the summer exit at Old Trafford could generate funding and allow the club to renew its efforts.
Ugarte has been close to a Premier League move before, having seen a deal with Chelsea collapse last summer.
