Karim Benzema has made it clear he wants to leave Al Ittihad.

That is according to AFP, though it comes as no surprise because Benzema has been linked with a move since the January transfer window opened.

It is understood a “bad-tempered” meeting took place with the board and the Frenchman made it clear he wants out.

Benzema was allegedly offered a loan move to another Saudi Pro League club but refused.

United’s legendary striker Andy Cole is in no doubt the Reds should be exploring a move for Benzema this month, ignoring the fact the club would face further Financial Fair Play complications.

Speaking to Betfred, as per the Manchester Evening News, Cole said: “150%. I would sign him if it was only for a training session. I was very surprised when he left Real Madrid in the summer, but I understand why it happened.

“That money he’s earning in Saudi Arabia is generational wealth. It’s for his kids and his kids’ kids. When you’re at that age in your career and you’ve already won four La Liga titles, five Champions League trophies and the Ballon d’Or, I can understand why he went to Saudi.

“Could he do it in the Premier League at his age? 100% considering the way he looks after himself. If Manchester United have the opportunity to sign him, then they should definitely try and make that happen.”

Fellow former United striker, Dimitar Berbatov, also gave a deal for Benzema his green light. He told the MEN that the former Real Madrid goalscorer would be vital to the Reds for the remainder of the campaign.

“Let’s see what Man United do in January, but why shouldn’t Man United sign him? He brings experience and goals. He’s been at Real Madrid before so maybe he’s talking to Raphael Varane right now. Asking how training is, how Ten Hag is and what Manchester is like.

“Benzema isn’t happy where he is from what we’ve all read and he just wants to play football. He doesn’t play for the money anymore, he has all the money already so he is an option for Man United.”
