Transfer news: Man United ‘offered £20m Barcelona star’ as Erik ten Hag plots important late transfer

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has been given the chance to sign a Barcelona star, reports claim.

Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Barcelona star Marcos Alonso.

Erik ten Hag wants to bring in a new left-back and the former Chelsea ace is the latest to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Ten Hag was forced to play Diogo Dalot at left-back in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest. Luke Shaw is set for a period on the sidelines with a muscular problem.

Tyrell Malacia is also absent having returned to pre-season with an injury. He is still a few weeks away from being back in contention.

Express Sport understands former Chelsea and Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand is one player United have considered. But it appears he is just one of a number of options Ten Hag is looking at.

A report from 90min claims Alonso is the latest potential option. It is said that United have been offered the chance to sign him, as well as Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon.

Alonso has not featured in any of Barcelona’s first two La Liga matches of the season. He last played in the pre-season friendly against Tottenham on August 8.

The same report says United are exploring the potential of a short-term loan deal until January for a left-back. Ten Hag will hope to have both Shaw and Malacia fit by then to enable the loan player to head back to his parent club.

Alonso spent six years as a player at Chelsea, making over 200 appearances in all competitions. He left on a free transfer last summer and joined Barca on a one-year contract
