Liverpool are hard at work in the transfer market in a bid to overhaul Jurgen Klopp’s midfield
Inside Liverpool’s pre-season plans
Liverpool could reportedly sign as many as three further midfielders this summer, with one being Southampton starlet Romeo Lavia.
The Reds are looking to revitalise the middle of the pitch after a disappointing season and have already added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to Jurgen Klopp’s options as they attempt to bounce back and compete at the top of the Premier League once again.
However, there is still plenty of uncertainty in midfield with both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho linked with moves to Saudi Arabia. The Brazilian’s move is at a further stage than the Liverpool captain, as Fabinho has been left out of the Reds’ pre-season tour squad to travel to Germany.
With the potential departures of two key figures in midfield following the likes of James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo out the door at Anfield – Liverpool’s interest in Lavia is set to be intensified.
However, the Belgian’s arrival may not be dependent on Henderson and Fabinho leaving according to Fabrizio Romano, raising the possibility of an exciting summer.
“It doesn’t depend on Fabinho or Henderson,” said Romano on his YouTube channel. “In any case, [Liverpool] will sign at least one more midfielder. Romeo Lavia is top of the list, they want Romeo Lavia. But I’m told that Chelsea are still there, so let’s see what’s going to happen.
“Also we know that if Arsenal sell Thomas Partey to a Saudi Arabian club, [Lavia] could be a possibility for Arsenal. Liverpool have Romeo Lavia in an important position in their list. Liverpool are considering multiple options for the defensive midfield position.
“I’m told Moises Caicedo is not negotiating with Liverpool and Liverpool are not negotiating with Brighton at this point.”
Liverpool wanting Lavia regardless of Henderson and Fabinho’s potential exits could mean that two replacements arrive alongside the 19-year-old at Anfield, as Klopp would likely want to keep the same number of players in midfield as previously planned.
