Sir Jim Ratcliffe arrives at Old Trafford for Man United talks amid Erik ten Hag uncertainty following strong Tuchel links -Report
Senior Manchester United executives are gathered at Old Trafford for crucial discussions on Erik ten Hag and the future of the stadium. Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Joel Glazer have both been photographed there.
On Monday, Sir Jim Ratcliffe showed up at Old Trafford ahead of important meetings with Manchester United’s senior management.
The strain has increased on Erik ten Hag as a result of the INEOS chief witnessing the team’s struggles in the first few weeks of the season in terms of performances and outcomes.
The fact that Joel Glazer was also spotted on Monday arriving at the team’s stadium raises serious concerns about his future.
Gary Neville was also there, and they talked about a number of things, including what would happen to Old Trafford.
Senior figures must decide whether to pour money into improving the stadium or building a whole new venue with potential plans already being drawn up.
Monday’s gathering comes ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled board meeting in London, where Ten Hag’s future will again be on the agenda.
Co-chairman Glazer will also attend the executive committee meeting on Tuesday, as will Ratcliffe’s right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford, CEO Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.
Ratcliffe was present at Villa Park to watch the goalless draw against Aston Villa on Sunday. He observed alongside Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Sir Dave Brailsford. The INEOS chief himself was far from convincing when quizzed on Ten Hag’s future last week.
He maintained the next move regarding Ten Hag was not his decision and that would be left to the brains trust he has put together in Manchester.
The minority owner, who is in charge of football operations: “I like Erik. I think he’s a very good coach but at the end of the day it’s not my call. It’s the management team that’s running Manchester United that have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects.
“But that team that’s running Manchester United has only been together since June or July. They weren’t there in January, February, March or April – [CEO] Omar [Berrada], [sporting director] Dan Ashworth – they only arrived in July. They’ve only been there… you can count it in weeks almost – they’ve not been there a long time, so they need to take stock and make some sensible decisions.”
Ten Hag has only won two of his seven Premier League games thus far with the team sat in the bottom half of the table.
