“Sign him Tomorrow!” – Man United urged to ‘spend £120m’ on England captain instead of signing £83m outstanding striker

Manchester United have been urged to spend £120m on England captain Harry Kane rather than sign key transfer target Viktor Gyokeres.

Several teams have shown interest in signing Sporting Lisbon’s goal-scoring sensation Gyokeres, including United.

Gyokeres, who joined Sporting from Championship team Coventry City in the summer of 2023, has already scored 23 goals in 16 games this season after scoring 43 in his debut.

Since his manager, Ruben Amorim, joined Manchester United of the Premier League, there has been a growing amount of speculation that the Sweden international may be leaving Sporting.

Gyokeres is a target for the Red Devils in January or the summer, but Louis Saha, a former United striker, thinks this would be a mistake.

He doubts Gyokeres is ‘the answer’ for Manchester United and says he would rather see Kane arrive at Old Trafford, even if it cost £120m.

Kane has scored a hugely impressive 61 goals in 61 games for Bayern Munich, having established himself as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe during his long spell with Tottenham.

Sitting on 213 Premier League goals, Kane may well be tempted to return to England at some stage to break Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260.

‘It might be surprising, but I don’t think Man Utd should go after Viktor Gyokeres,’ Saha told BoyleSports, who offer Premier League odds.

‘I think he is a good player in an incredible run of form, even in the Champions League, but he won’t get the same luxuries as he does at Sporting.

‘Sporting are not under the same pressure as Manchester United, it’s a completely different animal.

‘Right now United have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and at times the pressure has looked to be a lot for them to handle too.

‘It’s hard to find players who can do what Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland can do, United need to find players that can really hurt the opposition and are proven in doing so and that’s a big task.

‘Manchester United have spent a lot of money and I don’t think Gyokeres is the answer.

‘If you can spend £120million on Harry Kane then they should do it tomorrow, there are very few guarantees in football but that’s what a club like United needs.’

As well as being Tottenham’s record goalscorer, Kane also surpassed Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney to become England’s all-time leading scorer.

The 31-year-old, who struggled during England’s run to the Euro 2024 final, will look to add to his tally during the international break when the Three Lions face Greece and Ireland in the Nations League
