Marcus Rashford tipped for ‘Surprise’ Arsenal transfer – ‘Give me the paper, let me sign it for him now’

Marcus Rashford has been urged to leave Manchester United in favour of Premier League rivals Arsenal, with Emmanuel Petit claiming the Gunners can save the “miserable” forward

Emmanuel Petit is desperate to sign Marcus Rashford for Arsenal himself “right now”.

The ex-Gunners midfielder, who won the Premier League and FA Cup double with Arsenal in the 1997/98 season, has urged manager Mikel Arteta to splash out on the Manchester United forward this summer.

Petit believes Rashford is “miserable” after enduring a low-scoring season where his poor performances and off-field behaviour were heavily criticised.

His misery has been compounded by being left out of Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

Despite being a standout player for United in the previous 2022/23 season, the English striker’s season-long slump has sparked speculation about his future ahead of the summer transfer window. Aged just 26 with his best years ahead of him, however, Petit sees Arsenal as the perfect place for Rashford to rediscover his magic.

Petit drew parallels between Rashford’s current dilemma and Kai Havertz’s dismal three-year stint at Chelsea.

Having looked out of sorts at Stamford Bridge, Havertz has since excelled at Arsenal, bagging 13 goals in the league this season.

Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting, Petit explained:

“I know Kai Havertz has improved massively at Arsenal, but it’s difficult to say whether Arteta could do the same with Rashford if he moved to the club.

“However, I have no doubt that Rashford needs a new start and I think Arsenal could be perfect for him. We all know the quality of Rashford for what he’s done in years at Man United, but everyone questioned Havertz and his position when he moved from Chelsea.

“Would Rashford be good at Arsenal? Give me the paper, and let me sign it for him right now! Rashford in a good environment would be incredible for the Gunners as they all look miserable at United.

“I saw what happened with the fan and I understand his frustration, so if Rashford wants to leave, he’s more than welcome at Arsenal and the door is open for him.”

He added: “Havertz was in a strange environment at Chelsea and he wasn’t happy, but he has smiled at Arsenal and I can finally see his teeth – I want that for Rashford.”

Rashford was at the heart of a fiery spat with a United fan before their victory over Newcastle at Old Trafford last week. The supporter is understood to have moved down several rows to berate him, saying: “If you wanna go, go”, triggering the player.

Arsenal have been linked with a forward who can play out wide in recent months. They are eager to add some electric pace along their front line and cover for Bukayo Saka, though Rashford more often plays off the left, which is occupied by Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
