Manchester United Identify ‘Upgrade’ For Diogo Dalot But They Face Competition From Chelsea And Spurs If They Want Him

Manchester United are ‘keen’ on signing Monaco fullback Vanderson, according to CaughtOffside.com.

The 23-year-old has reportedly been identified as a potential “upgrade” for Diogo Dalot on the right-hand side of defence.

Vanderson is said to be valued at around €35m (£30m) to €40m (£34m), which means he wouldn’t exactly be a cheap addition.

With the Red Devils having already signed Noussair Mazraoui during the summer transfer window, it would be strange if the club opted to bring in another player in the same position so soon.

Man United are not the only Premier League team interested in Vanderson

Caught Offside claim that Chelsea also hold a “strong interest” in the defender, with the club needing to consider potential replacements for captain Reece James, who has been beset by injury problems over the past couple of years.

Tottenham may also consider making a bid for Vanderson if they seek to provide more competition for fellow Brazilian Pedro Porro.

Left-back is a more urgent priority for the club
It would be a massive surprise if United devoted the best part of £30m on a right-back when there are more pressing issues on the opposite flank.

Manager Erik ten Hag does have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as options on that side of the pitch but both have had major fitness setbacks over the past year.

Shaw has had thigh and calf injuries that have kept him sidelined for most of the last six months. Malacia’s situation is even more concerning.

While there is hope that the Dutchman will finally return to full training in October, he has spent well over a year on the treatment table following complications from knee surgery. For that reason, pursuing a new left-back would be seen as a better use of resources than recruiting someone like Vanderson
