Man Utd player asked Ruben Amorim to sell him in January during Bournemouth defeat -Report
The surprise Premier League loss to Bournemouth on Sunday will have taught Ruben Amorim a lot about his Manchester United team.
A few players practically begged to be moved during the January transfer window, including Tyrell Malacia, a surprise starter at left wing-back.
United lost to the Cherries 3-0 at home for the second consecutive season, their third defeat in four league games at Old Trafford.
Dean Huijsen gave the visitors the lead in the first half, and on the hour mark, Justin Kluivert’s penalty extended the lead.
During United’s difficult season, Antoine Semenyo added a third minute later to cause the most recent in a series of bad days.
Malacia’s first-half struggles summarised the Red Devils’ afternoon and sparked serious debate over his future in M16
Is the Dutch defender still finding his feet after spending 18 months on the sidelines with multiple knee injuries?
Or is he simply one of many poor signings sanctioned by Amorim’s predecessor, Erik ten Hag?
Either way, Malacia looked like a player who won’t be starting games for United next season once Amorim dips into the transfer market
The 25-year-old’s blistering pace was his strongest attribute in his maiden season in England, providing Luke Shaw with worthy competition
But after missing the whole of last term through injury, Malacia looks to have lost a yard or two – or seven
He has already been exposed since his return to action – most noticeably during United’s 3-2 victory against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League
Against Bournemouth, Malacia won just one of his five duels against Andoni Iraola’s physically superior outfit and looked out of his depth
The United No. 12 also lost possession seven times, committed two fouls and recorded an 84 per cent passing accuracy from his 25 passes
It was the least shocking development of the stormy afternoon when Leny Yoro emerged from half-time in his kit and Malacia didn’t.
Amorim will want Ineos to continue their ruthless streak on the pitch as early as January to help overturn United’s fortunes as soon as possible.
And it wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest if Malacia was on the chopping block to make way for a much-needed new left-wing-back
