Manchester United takeover: Sheikh Jassim is eager to buy the club and remove the Glazers from power after 18 controversial years at Old Trafford.

Sheikh Jassim’s last bid for Manchester United has seemingly given him an advantage in the race to buy the club, according to reports.

The mysterious figure launched his fifth offer for the club over a month ago. And though the Glazers are yet to pick a preferred candidate, a deal appears to be edging closer behind the scenes.

The Athletic say Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s last bid were for enough of the Glazers’ shares to give him control of the club.

But the report then says Sheikh Jassim’s fifth and final offer ‘possibly closed that gap to the point there is not much difference at all to the Glazers in terms of how much they get for their shares’.

It’s claimed that, if the Glazers picked Sheikh Jassim, they’d get their money far ‘sooner’ than under Ratcliffe.

And it’s claimed the last bid has put the Qatari billionaire in front in the race.

It would also give recent investors in United shares ‘an immediate return on their heartfelt commitments to the club’s future’.

Furthermore, it would give members of the Glazer family who want a clean break ‘a great big wedge of cash to enjoy it’.

And that works in Sheikh Jassim’s favour as he looks to buy United and complete a takeover this summer.
