Man United takeover latest as Gary Neville gives Surprise Sheikh Jassim verdict

Man United’s takeover remains in the balance ahead of the weekend’s Premier League action

Manchester United’s takeover remains firmly in the balance ahead of this weekend’s Premier League action as supporters await news from the Glazers.

Two bidders have distanced themselves as favourites to purchase the club should the American owners come to the conclusion a full sale is required following their strategic review.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have both proposed offers around the £5bn mark but it is believed the Glazers are wanting a bid in the region of £6bn.

The consensus among supporters remains that the Glazers should sell up and leave the club.

But, as the takeover headlines below suggest, there is no straightforward solution to the sale process.

Neville explains why Qatari takeover will attract greater scrutiny

Former captain Gary Neville has suggested that United would be under greater scrutiny than either Manchester City or Newcastle United if the club was sold to Sheikh Jassim.

The Qatari banker, along with British billionaire Ratcliffe, is one of the leading contenders to purchase the club from the Glazer family.

The prospect of a takeover coming to fruition at Old Trafford, however, has stalled in recent months, with no significant updates developing since June, at which point Sheikh Jassim tabled his fifth offer to buy the club. There has been speculation recently suggesting that the Glazers are considering pulling the plug on a potential sale.

United handed takeover warning by Liverpool decision

United’s takeover process has been frustrating to say the least for supporters of the club.

Since November, the Reds’ fanbase has been waiting for news on the Glazers’ future at the club after they announced a strategic review into their ownership. Sadly, transparency in regards to any potential deal has not been forthcoming and United continue to wait for updates on the process.

At the time of their initial statement, the American family claimed all options remained on the table for the sale including a complete takeover of the club. This declaration invited interest from Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe.
