Man United takeover: ‘i will sign him’ _ Sheikh Jassim already knows Kylian Mbappe desire as he prepares huge offer for the PSG star up for sale
Man Utd bidder Sheikh Jassim is reportedly interested in signing Kylian Mbappe should his proposal for the Red Devils be given the green light.
Manchester United bidder Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani risks missing out on Kylian Mbappe despite Paris Saint-Germain reportedly being desperate to sell the striker.
The Ligue 1 outfit want rid of Mbappe over the coming weeks to avoid losing him for free in a year’s time.
It is claimed that PSG wanted a response from Mbappe over a new contract by July 15. They had proposed a mega deal to extend the 24-year-old’s stay at the club beyond the summer of 2024.
However, Mbappe is keen to see out the remainder of his contract. He is supposedly tempted by a free transfer to Real Madrid at the end of next season.
Given they paid around £140m for Mbappe in 2017, PSG do not want to lose one of their star players for free. Instead, they are willing to sell the 2018 World Cup winner on a permanent deal before the close of the current transfer window.
However, even if Real do not sign Mbappe, Sheikh Jassim would have little hope of hijacking the move should he complete a takeover of Man Utd. That is because Mbappe supposedly prefers an alternative Premier League team if his switch to Spain falls through.
According to the Independent, Mbappe’s preference among English clubs is Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s turnaround of the Gunners’ fortunes has made the north Londoners an attractive proposition to the world’s best players.
When asked about Mbappe’s availability, Arteta said: “You know I never talk about players that don’t play for our club. I’m sorry.”
A transfer to England seems unlikely for Mbappe at this stage of his career, though. The former Monaco starlet seems very set on moving to Spain, where he would become the latest galactico to join Madrid.
Fabrizio Romano reports that PSG are convinced Madrid already have a deal prepared. The Ligue 1 champions have left their star man out of their pre-season tour squad.
Man Utd set to sell an eighth and ninth star promoted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Whether a move to Madrid happens this summer or in 12 months’ time remains to be seen.
But what can be said for certain is that a blockbuster switch to United seems extremely unlikely, and would certainly not happen unless Sheikh Jassim completes a takeover of the Old Trafford side.
Mbappe was reportedly one of the ‘dream’ signings first eyed by Sheikh Jassim when he first considered buying United from the controversial Glazer family.
But the Qatari is yet to find out if his reported £6billion proposal to purchase the club will be successful.
The Glazers are still deciding on the next course of action, eight months after they first put the club up for sale. Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe remain in the dark over whether their respective bids will be approved
