Man United table £25m offer for Barcelona’s and Euro 2024 star and get instant transfer response

Fermin Lopez enjoyed an impressive La Liga campaign with Barcelona last season and the midfielder is now in Germany with the Spanish national team at Euro 2024

Manchester United’s offer to sign Barcelona youngster Fermin Lopez away from his childhood club has reportedly been rejected.

Transfer plans were put on hold for almost three-week-long saga deciding Erik Ten Hag’s position.

But now that a managerial evaluation has concluded and faith appears to have been placed in the Dutchman, the team can go forward with the essential preparations to complete a radical rebuild.

Following the news of Raphael Varane’s departure, United aims to bring in defensive players. Meanwhile, the futures of Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Harry Maguire are also in doubt due to Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’s upcoming makeover.

However, midfield is another area where United is expecting players to leave, as Sofyan Amrabat’s loan agreement is unlikely to be extended, and Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes are all connected to moves away from the Theatre of Dreams. Additionally, Lopez is apparently being considered by United as a potential recruit.

The 21-year-old Spanish international, who is away with Luis de la Fuente’s side at Euro 2024, impressed with Barcelona last season having made 31 La Liga appearances and notching eight goals in the process.

The midfielder has the versatility to play on the wing and as a No 10, with plenty of praise afforded his technical and creative abilities.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, United have made an approach to try and secure the signature of the 21-year-old midfielder, with a bid of £25million tabled for the Spanish international.

But the overture was reportedly rejected, with the Catalan giants harbouring no intentions of parting ways with the playmaker unless an “irrefutable” bid is offered.

While Lopez was given his break under former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández, new manager Hansi Flick reportedly has plans in place for the midfielder next season, while the club view him as an integral part of their short- and long-term plans.

The value placed on the midfielder is viewed as growing consonant with his impending development, and Barcelona reportedly told United that they will need to “stretch” their initial offer if they want to engage in talks over a potential deal.
