Man United set to seal major Manuel Ugarte transfer as €30 million deal agreed for departing star

Manchester United have received a major boost in their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte after agreeing a deal with Napoli over the sale of Scott McTominay.

A fee in the region of €30million (£25.4m; $33.6m) has been agreed with the Serie A club, but United still need to find a resolution with McTominay who still has 12 months remaining on his current deal.

Given his status as a homegrown player, McTominay’s impending sale would represent ‘pure profit’ for United who need to satsify PSR regulations before they can continue with their own recruitment drive.

With just five days remaining of the summer transfer window, Erik ten Hag is still searching for reinforcements in several key areas with the need to strengthen in central midfield an obvious priority.

United have identified Ugarte as a key target and will finally be in a position to sign the combative Uruguay international once McTominay’s departure has been confirmed.

Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has been in England this week with the objective of completing an ambitious triple Premier League raid with deals for Chelsea misfit Romelu Lukaku and Brighton’s Billy Gilmour also in the pipeline
