Man United scouts watches Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres score for Sweden as transfer chase intensifies

Manchester United sent a scout to watch Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres play for Sweden when they defeated Slovakia 2-1 in the Nations League because they are interested in signing him.

With a scout observing as Viktor Gyokeres led Sweden in the Nations League, Manchester United has increased their interest in the striker.

Gyokeres, who joined Sporting from Coventry in 2023 and has scored 66 goals in 68 games, has long been linked to a move to United.

Additionally, since manager Ruben Amorim departed Sporting to lead United, rumors of a possible move to Old Trafford have only grown.

Also, a Sun report claims that United dispatched scout Sergio Souza to Stockholm to observe Gyokeres’ play for Sweden.

The report states that European giants Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also considering summer moves for the striker. Both Amorim and Gyokeres have been asked about a potential Old Trafford reunion in recent weeks.

“If I start joking about this Gyokeres situation I’ll get in trouble,” Amorim was quoted as saying by Portuguese outlet A Bola. “This is my city, this is my country, so I’ll respect it. Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life will probably go somewhere else.”

Gyokeres, meanwhile, told Fotbollskanalen: “He [Amorim] probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see. No, he hasn’t [asked me to join him]. It’s fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.

“It’s very sad that he’s leaving, but of course we understand his decision. He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much. Now we look forward to working with the new coach.”

Amorim has ruled out a January swoop for any of his Sporting players, but United are expected to back him next summer. “In January I’m not going to get anyone from Sporting. That’s what I said,” he admitted earlier this month.

“In the summer I don’t know what I’m going to do. The main point is to hold on until the summer. Second point, you can see that Sporting players are great players. Let’s see what will happen.”
