Man United ready to prepare bid to sign £50m-58m outstanding Barcelona star Midfielder in January – Report
There is one player who gets more talked about more at Old Trafford than some Manchester United players.
Season upon season, Man United are linked with a transfer for Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutch midfielder has been at Barcelona since 2019 and is one of the best midfielders in the world when he plays to potential. Frenkie’s performances at the Catalan club have been a mixed bag but no one ever doubts his potential.
Even this season, despite being injured since April and just having returned to action, his cameos have been a joy to watch. Frenkie is yet to make his first start of the season but this hasn’t dampened Manchester United’s spirits one bit.
Now, as per Spanish source, Fichajes, Man United are preparing to exploit Barcelona’s financial woes and Frenkie de Jong’s contract situation to try and sign him for around £50m-58m in January to pull the curtains on a long-drawn transfer saga.
Much has been made of the high salary that Frenkie earns at Barcelona and with his contract expiring in 2026, he is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract. The Catalan club is yet to reach an agreement and this could prompt a sale.
The interest in Frenkie de Jong is largely fueled by Man United manager Erik ten Hag’s desire to reunite with him but one isn’t sure that the Dutch coach will be around at Old Trafford for much longer to be making this call.
With that in mind, it remains to be seen if the hierarchy at Old Trafford provide whoever the manager is during January with the funds to sign Frenkie, especially after an outlandish summer. Let’s wait and see how it goes
