Man United make Manuel Ugarte shirt number announcement as they send final message to Jadon Sancho

Manuel Ugarte’s squad number has been announced by Manchester United. After Jadon Sancho’s loan departure, the transfer deadline day signing will take over the No. 25 jersey.

Before the window closed, the Uruguayan completed a €50 million (£42.3 million) transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, with an additional €10 million (£8.5 million) to be paid in add-ons at a later time.

Supporters have now learned the numbers that the club’s fifth summer addition will wear on his shirt as a United player, adding to the excitement surrounding his debut.

It’s interesting that Ugarte will assume the No. 25, which was only relinquished by Jadon Sancho a day ago.

On Saturday, United completed the winger’s loan transfer to Chelsea, a Premier League opponent, after putting the required arrangements in place.

Sancho was to return this pre-season though saw no action in the opening two weekends of the campaign.

His exit has now been confirmed, and although only a loan for the time being, the redistribution of his squad number would suggest the writing is on the wall, if this wasn’t already established. Chelsea possess the obligation to buy next summer for a fee rising to £25m.

Despite the latest confirmation of shirt number this Sunday, Ugarte will not be playing a part for Liverpool’s visit to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. The club needed to have registered the 23-year-old’s signing before 12 noon on Friday, but this deadline was missed in the end.

He takes the same number he has previously worn for his country, though never at club level. Most recently Ugarte wore the numbers four and 14 for PSG, whilst at Sporting CP he was No.15
