Man United make huge summer bid to sign £70m-rated PSG star as he sends transfer message to Joshua Zirkzee after completing Old Trafford move
Zirkzee was confirmed as the first signing of the summer transfer window by United on Sunday afternoon.
The 23-year-old has signed a long-term deal at Old Trafford that will keep him with the Reds through 2029, with an additional year’s option.
With Anthony Martial leaving as a free agent this summer, Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund are United’s primary choices for strikers in the lineup.
Though two new center backs are reportedly a priority, it is unclear what more additions United may make before the transfer window ends on September 2.
Zirkzee thanked Bologna in an emotional Instagram message shortly after the deal was officially revealed.
The striker had spent two years with the Italian outfit after signing for the club from Bayern Munich back in 2022.
One of the comments on the post came from Simons, who was a teammate of Zirkzee’s for the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
Simons did not write any words in his comment but used three heart emojis to send to his compatriot.
Reports in recent days have seen Simons’ future the subject of intense speculation.
The versatile playmaker spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain and has been linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 club this summer.
United have been credited with an interest in signing Simons this summer, who scored the opening goal for the Netherlands in the semi-final defeat to England at Euro 2024.
The 21-year-old scored 10 goals with 15 assists in all competitions during his loan spell at Leipzig last season
