Man United make final Ruud van Nistelrooy decision following Ruben Amorim arrival

Following the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim, Manchester United has revealed that Ruud van Nistelrooy has departed the Premier League team.

Over the summer, Van Nistelrooy, a former United striker, came back to Old Trafford to work as Erik ten Hag’s assistant manager.

However, he took over as temporary manager after the Dutchman was fired last month, and several players hoped he would be given a full-time position.

Amorim, the manager of Sporting Lisbon, was promptly enlisted by the Red Devils, and it was shortly declared that the Portuguese will take over on November 11. The head coach will arrive at Carrington on Monday.

From the moment of his hiring, speculation was rife as to whether Van Nistelrooy would join Amorim’s coaching staff, which only grew after his successful, unbeaten interim spell which saw three wins from four games.

But no sooner had Amorim arrived at United, Van Nistelrooy departed, with a club statement on Monday evening reading: ‘Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club.

‘Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach.

‘Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

‘We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.

‘Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed and we wish them all well for the future.

‘We will confirm the full men’s first team coaching composition in due course.’

Speaking on Sunday, Amorim hinted Van Nistelrooy would not be a part of his team, saying: ‘A legend of the club. He did a great job.

‘I have to talk with him tomorrow [Monday]. Then I will explain everything. I am very clear and I will tell you like it is. Let’s wait until tomorrow.’

Van Nistelrooy, 48, previously spoke his his desire to become United manager and will no doubt be on the hunt for a leading role somewhere else, with his reputation aided by his brief time at the helm of the Red Devils.

Under the Dutchman, United beat Leicester 5-2 in the Carabao Cup and 3-0 in the Premier league, beat PAOK 2-0 in the Europa League and drew 1-1 with Chelsea.

In his final press conference on Sunday, he said: ‘I appreciated the clear communication that it was an interim spell for the short-term.

‘In the end, the most important thing is this football club and I am here to support that in my role. I want to continue doing that in the future.’
