Man United ‘looking’ to sign 50-goal forward during next summer’s transfer window -Report

Brian Brobbey of Ajax is apparently still being pursued by Manchester United, who may make a bid for the striker during the summer transfer window of 2019.

Currently in his second stint at Ajax, the 22-year-old has made 125 appearances for the Amsterdam giants across all competitions, tallying 50 goals and dishing out 19 assists.

During Erik ten Hag’s tenure as manager, Man United was linked to Brobbey, and the head coach is reportedly keen to get the Netherlands international back together.

Regarding interest in the striker, Fichajes says that while a number of clubs are vying for his signature, the 20-time English champions ‘lead the way’.

The report claims that Ajax are likely to demand in the region of €40m (£33.8m) for the forward, and Man United are giving serious consideration to making a move during next summer’s transfer window.

Brobbey came through the youth system at Ajax, progressing to first-team level in 2020, but he left for RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.

The Dutchman found it difficult to make his mark for the German outfit, though, failing to score in 14 appearances in all competitions, before returning to Ajax on loan in January 2022.

Brobbey then completed a permanent switch back to the Dutch giants in July 2022, and an excellent 2022-23 campaign saw the forward manage 22 goals in 43 appearances in all competitions.

The forward is already off the mark during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring once in six appearances, although he has not registered in his two Eredivisie outings at the start of the new season.

Man United brought Joshua Zirkzee to Old Trafford over the summer, with the 23-year-old arriving from Bologna, and he has scored once in three appearances for the club this term.

Rasmus Hojlund was handed the number nine shirt over the summer, meanwhile, off the back of a successful first season at Man United, managing 16 goals in all competitions.

The Denmark international is yet to play this season due to a hamstring problem, but there is a chance that he will be back in the squad against Southampton next weekend.

Zirkzee has shown a willingness to drop deep, though, and Hojlund can play out wide, so it would not be a surprise to see the club move for another striker next summer.

An experienced option could be targeted, but if Brobbey can enjoy another successful season, then he could find himself the subject of a big-money offer from Man United in 2025.
