Man United Leading Liverpool in race as they eye swoop for 25-year old assists king as Deal for Manuel Ugarte delays

Manchester United have reportedly lined up a move for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman as a deal for Paris Saint Germain’s Manuel Ugarte continues to stall.

The Old Trafford outfit already agreed personal terms with Ugarte but the club has yet to reach middle ground with PSG over a transfer fee for the Uruguayan.

The two sides remain apart in their valuation of the player but talks remain ongoing to try and find a solution that works for all concerned parties.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano recently relayed that PSG are open to loaning out Ugarte to United, provided the deal includes an obligation to buy.

Amidst all this, CaughtOffside reveals that Erik ten Hag’s side are eyeing alternatives in case their bid to land Ugarte fails. A player under consideration is Veerman.

The news outlet explains, “Man United are covering all bases, and CaughtOffisde sources also understand that PSV Eindhoven’s 25-year-old midfielder, Joey Veerman, is of interest.”

“Erik ten Hag is building a core of Dutch players at United with the help of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s funding, and a move for Veerman therefore makes sense as a viable alternative to Ugarte.”

“If the deal [for Ugarte] isn’t done soon, however, it would appear that United will swiftly move on to Veerman, who Premier League rivals, Liverpool, also have their eye on.”

In the 2023/24 season, Veerman made 29 Eredivisie appearances. During that time, he bagged five goals and whooping 16 assists.

Across all competitions, the 25-year-old played 41 matches, registering seven goals and 19 assists.
