Man United injury news: Good news for fans as Erik ten Hag offers latest update on five players including Sofyan Amrabat
Manchester United will still be without a number of important players when they make the trip to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley according to Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has issued an update on the conditions of five first-team stars ahead of the Red Devils’ trip to Burnley on Saturday.
It has hardly been a stellar start to the new season for United, who currently languish 13th in the table and come into the game at Turf Moor off the back of three straight defeats across all competitions.
If Ten Hag’s men were a tad unfortunate to lose away at Arsenal earlier this month, there was nothing unlucky about the way they were beaten at home by Brighton last weekend.
Things were made even more miserable when they shipped four goals at the Allianz Arena during the 4-3 loss against Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in mid-week.
However, the visit to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley presents United with the chance to turn the tide on their poor form.
Ahead of the clash, Ten Hag was asked for an update on some of the United regulars that have recently been ruled out of action due to injury.
The Red Devils have been without Raphael Varane, Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire for varying amounts of time.
There has been some suggestion that Maguire could be the closest to a return after he didn’t travel to Munich on Wednesday after feeling some discomfort following a training session. The United boss had this to say regarding their respective returns: Maybe, as you say, Harry Maguire – We will see better after training [on Friday afternoon].
But Varane will train and we will see. Amrabat, he will train and we will see. Mount, as well, but they all didn’t play for a short or longer term. Varane, obviously, was the shortest [time] out.”
United have certainly had their fair share of bad luck when it comes to injury problems so early on this season. Mount cost the club £55million and as of yet, has played just two games before sustaining his hamstring issue during the 2-0 defeat away at Tottenham.
Amrabat was courted by United for so much of the summer before they finally landed his signature on deadline day, only to then miss every Red Devils game so far due to a stress fracture in his back. Another player who has made zero appearances for the club this term is Tyrell Malacia.
The Dutch left-back has not been seen since the final game of last season and while he is edging closer to a return, Ten Hag made clear that Malacia, much like Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Amad and Antony is still unavailable.
After the defeat by Brighton, Ten Hag was asked about Varane’s absence. He replied: “He had complaints, we didn’t want to risk him. We have to wait.” It seems like the wait is nearing it’s end, but Burnley could come too soon
