Man United held talks over Spain forward with €12m release clause as they look for possible Anthony Martial replacement

Manchester United are believed to be one of the clubs to have ‘held talks’ with the agent of striker Alvaro Morata during the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old Morata is presently taking part in the European Championship in Germany. He leads a strong Spanish team that has the potential to win everything this summer.

SportWitness reports that Sebah, a Turkish publication, has revealed that United has expressed interest in the Spain international.

The player is now with Atletico Madrid, although his contract contains a €12 million release clause. The contract that Morata has with Atleti expires in 2026.

This presents United with an opportunity to get a quality forward at a low cost, though I’m sure Morata would insist on a high wage.

Even so, it would still be a lot less than the weekly salary Anthony Martial was receiving from us. Additionally, United has been connected to moves to Bologna and the Netherlands.

One way or another, it looks like Rasmus Hojlund will have some competition for that centre-forward spot next season
