Man united handed major transfer boost as Brentford name ‘asking price’ for Top Premier League striker as Tottenham and Man United alerted

Brentford might have to sell Ivan Toney this summer, but they will only do so on their own terms.

Brentford will only sell striker Ivan Toney for £60 million and nothing less, according to talkSPORT, as both Manchester United and Tottenham look to sign the English striker this summer.

The Bees initially set his price at £80 million, but his form since returning from a ban has led them to lower the asking price.

However, this could change if he performs well at the Euros, with England looking to win a major tournament for the first time since 1966.

Manchester United have Toney on their list and are expected to pursue him after resolving manager Erik ten Hag’s future.

It remains to be seen if they will meet Brentford’s asking price. United are keen to add firepower to complement Rasmus Hojlund, who is still adapting to English football.

Last season, they struggled for large parts of the campaign when Hojlund failed to impose himself in games and will be looking to strengthen that department as they work on improving their eighth-place finish of last season.

Tottenham haven’t properly replaced Harry Kane, who left last summer, and despite changing their style of play, sources indicate they are monitoring Toney this summer.

Last January, Arsenal considered Toney, who had just returned from a betting suspension, but decided against the £80 million price tag. Spurs and Manchester United now lead the race for the striker.

Toney scored 4 goals in 17 games last season, enough to convince England manager Gareth Southgate to pick him for the Euros. Ideally, Brentford would like to keep him, but if they have to sell, they will want to exact the maximum fee to help soften the blow of losing their star player
